Today is the first day of the month, and the first of a new quarter, which makes it feel like a new beginning to me. A fresh start.
For this reason, I’ve given April a theme. I’m calling her auspicious.
Aus·pi·cious (adjective): conducive to success; favorable.
This is a theme of faith, not fortune-telling. I do not know what the weeks ahead will hold. But I hope they are favorable. I believe that they can be.
Favorable for creative inspiration.
Favorable for connection and healing.
Favorable for growth.
Introducing April’s Journal Pages
In the journal video, above, I share more about how my April pages came together this year. After a moody March, I’m encouraged by April’s bright tones and pink and green colors. Finally, the “greige” of winter is giving way to spring!
The collage images I curated for the month feature a lot of blooms and plants, bright, airy spaces, and fresh, healthy foods. After years of journaling, I’ve learned that these are the things I gravitate toward every April, and these visuals help me do that. Here are some thoughts for how you could try something similar…
Ideas for using visuals to foster an auspicious feeling:
Whatever kind of journal, notebook or scrapbook you enjoy, choose bright, spring-like colors for your palette this month. Think pink, green, gold, yellow, and purple.
Curate, doodle, draw or paint buds, vines, flowers and other images of growth.
Find stickers with gardening and spring vibes—look for rainbows, sprouts, blooms and fanciful lettering.
Clip images that signify fresh beginnings, like colorful, healthy salads and pictures of the outdoors.
Of course, I don’t want to oversimplify the complexities and challenges of life by suggesting that coloring a page with pink and green will magically change difficult circumstances. It won’t.
But I will say with total conviction that when I turned the page (literally) from March to April in this year’s journal—when I saw the colors and images shift to bright and fresh—I felt a lift. My mood shifted along with the design.
What could be more auspicious than that?
What’s making you feel hopeful and energized right now? How are you using your creativity to lean into that this month? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Cheers, Steph
P.S. Stay tuned for tomorrow’s email that goes into more detail about my specific intentions for this new month. Hint: cleaning and crafting are prominently featured.
